To meet booming Mini Babybel® sales in the United States, over €112 million were invested to build the Group's 28th production plant, in Brookings, South Dakota. Opened in July 2014, the site will eventually produce 10,000 metric tons of Mini Babybel® per year, or 1.5 million single-serving portions per day, enough to satisfy demand from the brand's leading fans, American consumers.
A model of industrial innovation, the production site blends cheese-making knowhow with high technology, building on nearly 40 years of manufacturing expertise developed at the Evron, France production site, the brand's original home and a center of technological excellence within the Bel Group.
"The inauguration of a third plant in the United States is a historic event for Bel," said Antoine Fiévet, Chairman and CEO of the Bel Group. "It incarnates our willingness to dare, which is one of our company values. We introduced Mini Babybel® to the United States in 1979. Since then, the brand has established itself as a balanced and fun snack to be eaten on the go — making it particularly well suited to American eating habits. This new production site, which represents the largest capital expenditure in our company's history, is fully in line with our growth potential on the North American continent."
